How to Leverage your Supplier for Free Flights!

After a long and hard pool season, getting away and traveling is very common in the winter months, especially for companies in the north. After learning how to take advantage of a little-known opportunity, I’ve been able to purchase Buy-One-Get-One-Free Flights from Southwest Airlines, and travel more than I could imagine.

With the Southwest Companion Pass, you can relatively easily earn this benefit by signing up for their credit card and using it to pay your suppliers throughout the season. Once you earn this benefit, you’ll earn BOGO flights for the current calendar year, and all of the following year!

Now seasonal downtime has a new meaning – beaches, vacations and tradeshows for half the price for you and your companion!

What is the Southwest Companion Pass?

The Southwest Companion Pass is a top tier point system reward for Southwest consumers. By point accumulation, holders of select Southwest cards may become eligible for a buy-one-get-one free travel pass for anyone of their choosing. Upon meeting one of the two requirements, successful holders will receive a free pass (excluding taxes and fees) for all flights for the remainder of the current calendar year alongside the entire following year.

While this reward seems exciting, it can be rather difficult to quickly acquire. However, there are a few ways to expedite meeting these requirements.

How can you qualify for a Southwest Companion Pass?

Southwest has listed two requirements in order to qualify for a pass. Consumers are only required to meet one of these two requirements.

  1. Complete 100 qualifying one-way flights in a single year
    1. This may be quite difficult to meet unless you’re frequently traveling for business.
  2. Accumulate 125,000 Rapid Reward points in a single calendar year.
    1. These points can be accumulated through flights booked with Southwest, purchases from your Southwest credit card or base points from Rapid Reward partners.

How to use your pool business to quickly qualify for a Southwest Companion Pass

For most people, it’ll be much easier to qualify through point accumulation rather than completing the 100 flight method. Rapid Reward points may be obtained through various spending with your Southwest card. Even without taking advantage of their special rewards for dining, transportation, lodging or other special deals, you earn points on all purchases. This is where your pool business expenses come in handy.

Like most businesses, your pool business probably has general expenses every month for supplies or other operating products and services to keep your business running efficiently. This creates a perfect opportunity to utilize your Southwest credit card for these repetitive purchases. Combining business expenses with casual purchases and you’ll soon have access to your own Southwest Companion Pass.

Southwest also offers a quick way to bootstrap your way to a companion pass through the use of sign-up offers. Depending on your Southwest card (plus, premier or priority), you can obtain up to 70,000 points by spending between $1,000 and $5,000 within your first few months of opening your card.

Hopefully with these few tips, you’ll be able to obtain a Southwest Companion Pass for making your normal everyday purchases for your pool company. You can learn more about Rapid Rewards here
